Determining Massachusetts Medicaid Coverage For Addiction Treatment

MassHealth coverage may depend on several factors, such as copays, prior authorization, and referrals.

MassHealth Copays

Nearly all members will need to cover a small, affordable copay. Some treatment facilities extend a $0 copay for Medicaid users, so it will depend on the program and rehab center.

Members who do not have copayments include:

• those with an income at or below 50% of the FPL
• those getting Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
• those under 21 years old

Prior Authorization For Medicaid Services

If your behavioral health provider suggests a service that requires prior authorization, the provider will contact the Massachusetts Behavioral Health Partnership (MBHP).
